Blueberry dye
Dye Experiment Materials:
-
296 grams of blueberries
-
(pre-washed) silk, wool, and cotton fabric (cut into 6x6" squares)
-
pot (not used for cooking)
-
strainer
-
container for dye (optional)

Fabric preparation:

Add 1.5 gallon of water to a pot.

Mix 8tsp of alum with 1 cup of hot water.

Bring pot to boil and add fabric.
-
Simmer pot for 1 hour.

Let pot cool down until fabric is retrievable.

Rinse fabric under warm water.
Dye bath: ​

Add 8 cups of water to pot.
-
Add berries to pot.
-
Bring to boil.
-
Simmer dye bath for 20 minutes.

Take dye bath off heat
-
Strain fruit out.
-
Add fabric to dye bath.*
-
Let it soak for a day.
-
Occasionally stir.

*I moved the dye to a glass container as I need the pot for more dyeing.
